More ammo for your barrister from BMF:
Dear Mr Vince,
Any motorcycle police officer can confirm that it would be dangerous to ride with a visor that you cannot see through. Motorcycle police officers also spend a great deal of time learning to ride with one hand so that they can flag people down amongst other things. It also specifies in the Highway Code that you are required to operate a motorcycle with one hand to give hand signals; therefore riding with one hand is perfectly legal and safe provided you are in full control of your vehicle. I concur with David that you should make a formal complaint against the officer, although I would seek to qualify that with written evidence from either a motorcycle trainer or, provided you can still find one, a friendly motorcycle police officer. As you may know, full BMF members are entitled to a free consultation with Biker Legal Line on 08000 856 243. One thing I would not do is let it lie, because breaching an ASBO is a very serious offence and obviously the police officers in your area don’t know much about motorcycling.
Yours,
Chris Hodder
Government Relations Executive
BMF

Cheers Archi,
Once we receive a copy of the Section 59 with the PC's no. on (I assume he'll get one) we can bang the complaint and request for an apology in and see what happens. I may request a formal letter of support from MAG and the BMF at some point or at the very least steal some quotes from David Short and Chris Hodders comments above.
Ta for the support anyroad, much appreciated.

| If the jobsworth officer who does not know his law is reading this blog I suggest he reads the police riding manual on page 113 it states the use of hand signals which involves taking a hand off the handlebar. The reaction of all the advanced instructors and examiners that I have spoken too, including Police ones and ex-polce is one of sheer incredulity and dismay at the particular muppet.
